Applications
ADELIE is an warning system build to detect the presence of smoke in the wild. Therefore it allows the detection of very early onset of fire. Installed on high points or existing watchtowers, a set of video continuously monitors the sensitive area of 360° with a range up to 25km. The information locally developed is transmitted in real-time to the operations center (SDIS). A visual and audible warning indicate to the operator the existence of a detected smoke. ADELIE provide the appropriate images to confirm the alert.
This system is based on five major themes:
- Early Detection
- Precise location of fire outbreaks
- Transmission of alerts and images
- Displaying detection images for a human confirmation
- Security and system availability
Early Detection
Smoke detection is performed by comparing images.
Each high point is fitted with cameras in charge of detection. Every 100 seconds a comparison of images is performed. The images and eventual alerts, with location information, are transmitted by radio to the operational center.
Precise location
The location of the fire outbreak is performed in 2 ways, telemetry and triangulation.
With the images, the system sends to the operational center the angular direction (azimuth) and the estimated distance of the detection compared to the high point.
If only one tower has detected smoke, the telemetry distance is used. If, at least, two towers detected it, the central confirm by triangulation the location of the sinister.
Transmission of alerts and images
Images and detections are transmitted from high points toward the center operational by a digital wireless broadband frequencies between 5.4 GHz and 5.7 GHz. Existing towers or high points used, are according on topography, networked. This architecture allows to cover large distances exceeding 100 kilometers, ensuring the needed flow to transport images.
Displaying detection images for a human confirmation
In the operations center, images of different points of observation and any alarms are received on 1 or more computers.
With a powerful zoom high definition video camera, the operator in the operational center decided to validate the warnings and to confirm the existence of an fire outbreak.
The monitoring tool allows triangulation to locate the sinister's place and transmit to the intervention teams exact location. The developments may be remotely followed by the responsible for operations monitoring with these so-called "raised of doubt" video cameras. So that the detection system remains active.
Security and system availability
To ensure continuity of service even if an incident occurs, all devices may be redundant.
Each tower can be equipped with one or two video cameras of detection and one or two calculators. A remote system of maintenance and care is possible.
The radio transmission can be doubled to a transmission by broadband.
Basic installation up watchtowers
- A tri-CCD camera detection scanning the horizon of 360 ° (optional redundancy: 2 camera on 180 ° / 360 °)
- A processing unit for the management of the detections (optional redundancy: 2 units)
- A controllable digital video camera with x26 zoom for the "raised of doubt"
- A high-speed digital radio transmission (optional redundancy: broadband router)
Transmission system
Main transmission : MOTOROLA's CANOPY radio
Owner digital network wireless broadband (the authorized frequencies by the decree of 13/12/05 are 5.4 GHz and 5.7 GHz in France). These connections are secure and offer some importants rates (up to 300 Mbps).
The real-time transmission of images and video requires a 2 Mbps rate per tower. At the operational center the 2 Mbps rate is multiplied by the number of watchtowers.
Further transmission (for security): Broadband ADSL link for the towers and broadband SDSL link for the operational center.
Equipement operational center
- Data server
- One or more operator computer with dual screens
- One or more 52 inches screens for operational monitoring
